The Future of Internal Comms

The Future of Internal Comms

As we move into the future there is going to be a drastic shift from what is known as the "department that sends emails" into being what the strategic driver of company culture will be. By 2026, the way companies communicate will not be about "broadcasting noise" but instead creating personalized, human-centric experiences.

The future of internal communications (IC) will consist of the following in expected plain language:

1. AI as a "Co-Pilot" rather than a replacement

There was no "robot takeover," but AI has transformed into your personal assistant with tremendous emotional intelligence to do all of the work that requires no emotional intelligence.

  • Beyond Writing: AI can perform functions beyond writing newsletters. AI can also analyse real-time employee sentiment to inform company leaders on whether their internal communications reach employees well or if their employees are feeling burned out.
  • Hyper-Personalisation: Think of AI communications like Netflix for the workplace. Rather than sending every employee an email with the same 50 paragraphs, AI will help you send relevant information at the right time to each specific employee type (i.e.: a salesperson will receive different information about the product).
  • Reducing Noise: AI tools now have the ability to condense long town hall meetings into 2 minute "TL;DR" audio short clips for employees to listen to while on the go.

2. The End of the "Annual Survey"

The practice of waiting one year to gather information on how employees feel about their jobs is no longer considered an effective way to evaluate employee engagement.

  • Feedback is Now "Always On": Organizations provide employees with frequent (usually weekly or monthly) status updates using two-question "pulse" surveys to help identify and/or prevent employee turnover at earlier stages than traditional annual surveys.

3. "Putting the Human Back into the Digital World"

As artificial intelligence continues to grow within organizational environments (creating an exponential amount of content being generated), authenticity has quickly become the one single thing that organizations need to focus on to be competitive within a digitalized society.

  • Less Polished and More Raw: Employees are fatigued with the amount of "corporate-speak" that is currently being used in traditional forms of employee engagement communication. The next generation of effective leaders will be the leaders who are willing to send unedited video updates using their cell phones and/or engage employees through "Ask Me Anything" sessions (AMAs), where they can interactively respond to employee questions without prewritten scripts.
  • More Storytelling: The major shift in the evolution of effective employee engagement communication is to use employee stories to provide the "why" behind each individual’s contribution to the overall success of the organization, rather than simply listing overall accomplishments of the organization.

4. The "Strategic Partner" Transformation

Internal Communications (IC) have come out of Human Resources and are now participating in Board of Directors meetings.

IC Professionals are being asked to quantify their contributions to the organization's bottom line via retention (retaining employees) and productivity (enabling employees to access information more quickly).

"Workforce Readiness" is now the measure of success. Are every employee in the organization aware of the new organizational strategy or just giving lip service?

5. Providing Communications to the "Deskless" Employee

In prior years, Internal Communications has ignored the workers in factories or at the front line. This has changed.

  • Mobile-First: While previously, communication occurred primarily through email, mobile communication is moving to applications and SMS messages. Employees without a company email receive communications via access to a secure, user-friendly mobile portal.
  • Managers as Messengers: Given that front-line employees tend to trust their immediate supervisor over an organization leader they've never met, Internal Communications is focused on developing the communication skills of managers as communicators.

6. From "Broadcasting", to "Orchestrating"

Historically, internal communications concerned merely pushing the information out but today it focuses on how you can ensure that information is flowing throughout the entire organization properly.

  • Cognitive Respect: This is a completely new standard, where the company recognizes that an employee's attention is in limited supply; therefore every message sent must pass through the "test" of being "worthy" of that person's time in order for it to be sent.
  • The "Single Source of Truth": In the past, information was dispersed throughout Slack, email and Zoom; therefore the focus now is on building one central "hub" (often an upgraded, AI-fueled intranet) for employees to find the information they require without having to go on a "digital" treasure hunt.

7. Managers are "Chief Context Officers"

For quite a while now, companies have tried to bypass managers to get straight to employees in order to communicate effectively. This has proven unsuccessful. In 2026 the focus has changed:

  • Supporting Not Asking More: Instead of requiring managers to "do more" when communicating with their teams, communication teams are providing managers with Manager Toolkits (Includes talking points, FAQs, "the why" to help them explain the changes in a more personal and informed way).
  • The Trust Gap: Studies show that employees trust their immediate supervisor much more than they do a faceless company entity; hence, communication teams now spend 50% of their time managing the relationship between management and employees, particularly through face-to-face communication and continuous employee feedback so as to gain the highest possible level of trust from employees.

The Future of Internal Comms

Say goodbye to "walls of text" and hello to a more human way of working.

Let’s be honest: people don’t read long emails. A quick AI video puts a face to the message, builds trust, and ensures the team actually listens to the update.

It’s easier than ever. Instead of booking a studio for policy changes, you just update the script. The AI regenerates the video in minutes, keeping materials fresh without high costs.

Absolutely. Imagine a new hire getting a video where the AI character says their name. It makes employees feel valued and seen, which is huge for company culture.

This is a game-changer. Record in English and have the AI translate it into 20+ languages with perfect lip-syncing. Every global team gets the same message in their native tongue.

Not if you’re transparent. When people see that it helps them get information faster and more clearly, they usually appreciate the efficiency rather than worrying about the tech.

Definitely! It's a lifesaver for remote teams. Team members can generate 30-second recaps, allowing everyone to stay updated on their own schedule without meeting fatigue.

Using a consistent AI avatar for shout-outs or "wins of the week" makes the digital workspace feel alive. It adds personality that text just can't match.

We offer Private Hosting. Your videos are locked behind your company's login, so you can share internal strategy updates with total peace of mind.

In a crisis, speed and tone are everything. AI video lets leadership push out a calm, visual message in minutes, ensuring everyone hears the same facts simultaneously.

Research shows people remember 95% of a message in video versus 10% in text. Using AI video for training ensures information sticks, saving time in the long run.
